Transfer Files from Windows Host to Oracle VirtualBox (Ubuntu)

Here’s how you can transfer files from your Windows host to Ubuntu VM (hosted on a VirtualBox ).

STEP 1:

Before starting your Guest System (Ubuntu), specify a shared folder under

VirtualBox Manager >> Settings >> Shared Folders

specify shared folder in VirtualBox Settings

STEP 2:

Start your guest system (Ubuntu) and create a new folder

Create a directory in guest system

STEP 3:

In guest system mount that drive using the following command

sudo mount -t  vboxsf  HOST_SHARE  GUEST_SHARE

(Where HOST_SHARE is the name of the shared folder from the VirtualBox Manager settings and GUEST_SHARE is the directory created in Ubuntu VM box)

mount the folder in guest system

In case you see an error as below:

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on …

you probably need to install VirtualBox-guest-utils first. You can do that with below command:

sudo apt-get install VirtualBox-guest-utils
